Looking unto Jesus whose certain return, at an uncertain time, is from age to age the expectation and the hope of the faithful Church, who is encouraged in patience, watchfulness and joy by the thought that the Savior is at hand (Phil 4:4-5; I Thess. 5:23)
Vance Havner reminisced about a time when the most exciting day in the small town he lived in was the day when the train came through. Much of the town would show up to watch it pull into the station and to discover who might be arriving into the area. At the station, Havner noted, you could always tell the difference in the anticipation between those who were merely curious and those who were expecting a loved one to arrive. How I look to the coming of Christ matters. Am I merely fascinated with the study of last things or am I on tip toe, watching in tremulous joy for the appearing of my beloved?
Rejoice in the Lord always. Again I will say, rejoice! Let your gentleness be known to all men. The Lord is at hand. Philippians 4:4-5
Now may the God of peace Himself sanctify you completely; and may your whole spirit, soul, and body be preserved blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.
I Thessalonians 5:23
Can We Pray? Lord God I want to know intimacy with Your Son Jesus. I want to feel Him ever present with me. But God, in my pursuit for and enjoyment of intimacy with the Savior let me not be found preferring the fellowship we share this day for the fellowship of that day when I shall see Him face to face. Instead, as a result of the present communion I enjoy with Him intensify my longing and sharpen my looking and purify my living for the day He returns. In Jesus name, amen
