Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith” (Heb. 12:2) He is faith’s pattern and its source, even as He is its object. From the first step to the last He marches at the head of the believers so that by Him our faith may be inspired, encouraged, sustained and led on to its supreme consummation.
As author our Lord writes the book on faith and finishes it. He is our supreme pattern/example of a faithful life. When tempted to turn stones into bread His answer of faith was, “Man shall not live by bread alone (what he sees and feels) but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.” He looked beyond His felt need for food and in faith chose to embrace the great need of faith, to follow the voice of God. This faith commitment He kept perfectly all the way to the cross where He cried out in victory, “It is finished!” Now this perfectly faithful Savior lives in the believer. He lives there to be the source and power for our own faith. At the same time He is the one we look to and obey as Lord. It is His word we follow. He is the perfect and complete object of our faith as well.
looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. Hebrews 12:2
Can We Pray? “Oh Lord Jesus how often I am overwhelmed by my senses. How often my faith takes a back seat to my feelings. In this moment I turn from the impulse to live by my physical senses. Awaken in me spiritual sight. Stir up with in my inner man ears to hear Your voice. “Jesus I would faithful be, give me the power; give me the power.” Let me recount Your example of faithful triumph and chose to walk with You until that promised day of final, universal victory. Amen.”
