  Looking Unto Jesus Day 23

Looking unto Jesus and not to our position in the church, to the family to which we belong, to our baptism, to the education which we have received, to the doctrine which we profess, to the opinion which others have formed of our piety or to the opinion which we have formed of it ourselves. Some of those who have prophesied in the name of the Lord Jesus will one day hear Him say, “I never knew you” (Matt. 7:23). But He will confess before His Father and before His angels even the most humble of those who have looked unto Him.

In the large sanctuary of an old church I listened to the eulogy of the man.  The seats were about half filled.  The eulogy consisted of a rehearsal of the many ecclesiastical boards and committee’s this man had sat on over the years, while he attended the church.  He was a church man.  Maybe it was the absence of a personal testimony of acquaintance with the Lord Jesus that put a question mark in the back of my mind.  “Had this man known the Savior?  Was he now at rest in heaven or was he…?”  I decided to leave the answer with the Lord and His mercy.  But I did determine one thing.  I don’t want to go out under the same recognition as this dear soul.  Let it be said of my position, “He was a servant only to the Savior who loved and gave His life for the Church.”

For if we are beside ourselves, it is for God; or if we are of sound mind, it is for you. For the love of Christ compels us, because we judge thus: that if One died for all, then all died; and He died for all, that those who live should live no longer for themselves, but for Him who died for them and rose again.               II Corinthians 5:13-15

Can We Pray?  Dear Father of all, thank you for that sacrificing love of the Savior, who gave himself for us that he might present us to himself as a bride without spot.  May we live by His grace and life such a life of selfless sacrifice and love as well.  Let that mind be in us which was also in Christ.  So may we esteem others better than ourselves and so may we serve in the footsteps of the Servant King.   Thank you Father for the Spirit who brings this way of servant hood to us as He shows us the way of our master.  In His Name, Amen
