Looking unto Jesus and not at our doubts. The more we look at them, the larger they appear. They can swallow up all our faith, our strength and our joy. But if we look away from them to our Lord Jesus, who is the truth (John 14:6), the doubts will scatter in the light of His presence like clouds before the sun.
There is no doubt. We have all doubted. I remember a message that I heard when I was a young student in Bible College. It was and still is very helpful to me. We were reminded that when we become followers of Christ we enter into a spiritual battle. The speaker likened it to wars of old where there was a definite front line in the combat. The plan of the enemy is to break through that line. He assaults at one point with the hopes of breaking through and getting behind the lines and conquering.
The speaker then commenced to name multiple means the enemy uses to pierce through our defenses. These means are often used one after the other. The first thrust is DOUBT. If not checked by looking unto Jesus it will be quickly followed by disappointment, discouragement, despair, and then defeat.
Is doubt not the first thrust Satan made in the Garden? “Hath God said?” Let us turn from doubt and remember that nothing is impossible with God.
He (Abraham) staggered not at the promises of God through unbelief; but was strong in faith, giving glory to God; and being fully persuaded that, what He had promised, He was able also to perform. Romans 4:20
Can We Pray? God unchanged, all powerful, teach me to turn my doubts up to you and hold them there. Let me measure them against the overwhelming displays of power and faithfulness that you have placed all around my life. Let my life of trust bring glory to you and direct those weak in faith to the one true place of un-staggering rest. In Jesus name…Amen
