Looking unto Jesus… When we look to Him, we will see everything in its true light, because it is He who shows us what we need to know at the time and in the proportion in which this knowledge will produce in us the fruits of humility and wisdom, gratitude and courage, watchfulness and prayer. All that it is desirable for us to know the Lord Jesus will teach us; all that we do not learn from Him it is better for us not to know.
Kathy, a retired education professor, is a new Christian. A couple years ago, during a Sunday morning walk, she was invited into a neighborhood church and has been there ever since. Here is her insight on the above meditation.
“I met Jesus in "true light." After surgery, in the middle of the night, I sat up and was so surprised to see Jesus sitting in radiant light telling me that everything would be all right--that I would recover and live. This was an unexpected visit for me; and what a life changing event! However it took time to understand or know the effects on my life. My doctor told me if I went out in public and caught something I would die. This gave me gave me six months of quiet and time to think and read.
Later I walked. And of course found myself sitting in the Bread of Life Fellowship decked out in my gardening clothes. Jesus kept guiding me until I found this wonderful church. The Pastor said that the Holy Ghost brought me into the church. I'm sure that is true.
And each day more is revealed to me. Someone gives me the right book to read when I need it, or says something that leads me on and on. Jesus shows me what I need when I need it. It can be through people, study, or prayer. And through this process "this knowledge” produces humility, wisdom, gratitude, courage, watchfulness, and prayer. It is a cumulative experience.
Actually in education we call this readiness. We teach a student what he needs to know at the right time. If it is too early it won't be comprehended, and if it is too late it is dismissed, and if it is too much it overwhelms. But readiness also denotes a state of mind of the learner. One must be accepting of the knowledge presented.”
Hold fast the pattern of sound words which you have heard from me, in faith and love which are in Christ Jesus. That good thing which was committed to you, keep by the Holy Spirit who dwells in us. II Timothy 1:13,14
Can We Pray? Lord I believe You know just what I need to know at any given moment. I just want to be ready. I want to be accepting of all you have for me. Put in me, each day, the attentive heart of a learner. Awakening me to the possibilities of learning in the presence of Your true light. In Jesus precious Name, Amen
